Overview
The bold and the beautiful
The 2007 Cadillac Escalade EXT is a super horse from the Cadillac stable. The shy beauty on the outside has a powerful beast inside. The car has the angular beauty of an SUV and the power of a mini-truck. Versatility, luxury, and capability are its main attributes.

The control and the dual-suspension system match its roles perfectly. The fourth generation powerful engine packed with the power of 403 horses gives it the sufficient power to perform its function with great panache. The Forbes magazine has named it the ‘ultimate pickup’.

Although General Motors, the makers of the car, provide a warranty of 100, 000 miles or a period of five years, whichever comes first, this trim has an extended 72 months rust–through corrosion warranty. GM provides not only roadside assistance to the customer in case of any break down of the vehicle but also provides courtesy transportation for the time the vehicle undergoes repair under the warranty period.

The aspect which separates this Sport Utility Truck from other SUVs is comfortable seating. It has ample space for five people. And in case of extra cargo loading, the space can be increased by folding the second-row seats.

The EXT competes with the likes of the Lincoln Navigator and the Lexus LX Sport Utility.

Engine and Performance
Powerful
Escalade EXT comes with a powerful Gen IV 6.2L Vortec V8 engine with variable-valve-timing (VVT) that generates a power of 403 hp @ 5700 rpm and torque of 417 lb-ft. @ 4400 rpm. This engine is coupled with a Hydra-Matic 6L80 heavy-duty 6-speed automatic transmission with electronically controlled shifts in addition to Performance Algorithm Shifting (PAS), tow/haul mode, and a Driver Shift Control that allows you to switch to manual mode.

It has a sequential electronic fuel injection system, which monitors fuel flow to the cylinder. This system ensures that the fuel inside the cylinder is utilized completely before releasing more fuel, thereby improving the mileage.

The Cadillac Escalade EXT has a towing capacity of 7600 lbs..

Walk-around
Aggressive Beauty
The EXT has a beautiful aggressive look. The front fascia is designed similar to an SUV while the rear portion follows an open mini-truck look. The front grille of the EXT is broad with four slats with the Cadillac badge placed in its center. The EXT comes with standard Xenon high-intensity discharge headlamps and halogen fog lamps. Intellibeam headlamps that can automatically switch from high to low beam when required come as an option.

The EXT has assist steps on either side that makes it easy to get in or out of the vehicle. Power-adjustable running boards are optional. The deep tinted glasses of the windows, except the wind shield lend it a glittering effect. Even the roof-mounted luggage rack has chrome accents.

The power-folding mirrors provide exterior rearview. These automatically dim on the driver’s side to provide better visibility. The automatic windshield wipers actuate automatically if they sense any rain. The heated windshield washer fluid aids in de-frosting.

The beauty of the car can be augmented by going for some of the accessories being specifically sold by the company. A customer can opt for the chrome aluminum or aluminum alloy wheels. Chrome fuel door and chrome mesh design front grille adds to the beauty of the vehicle.

The EXT rides on standard 18-inch 7-spoke machined aluminum wheels with Touring Blackwall P265/65R18 tires. 18-inch 7-spoke chromed aluminum wheels and 22-inch 7-spoke chromed aluminum wheels with R285/45R22 Blackwall higher performance tires are available as options.

The EXT is available in Red Tide Blue, Black Raven, White Diamond, Gold Mist, Quick Silver, and Red E colors.

Lap of luxury
The interiors of the EXT are elegantly designed in black and wooden trimmings. The tilt-adjustable steering wheel is mounted with audio, OnStar system, and cruise controls for easy operation by the driver. The second–row bench can be folded in a 60/40 split to increase cargo space. The front seats come standard with pre-heated seatbacks and a 4-way power lumbar. The console has two lids and a good storage capacity.

Remote transmitters enable remote start and climate control system activation. The climate control system has two different settings for the driver and front passenger. The climate control package includes heated and cooled front seats. A sunroof with express open and close functionality is present.

Escalade EXT comes standard with the top-end Bose audio system and a 6-disc CD changer with independent rear-seat audio controls. A DVD rear seat entertainment system is available as an option. A Driver’s Navigational System is also available as an option.

Driving Impressions
Driving hands down
The Cadillac Escalade EXT is not only a pleasure to drive but also extremely reliable. The power steering is extremely responsive and the power adjustable pedals have memory recalls for two drivers.

The EXT rides on coil-over-shock front suspensions and 5-link rear suspensions, along with bi-modal mono-tube shocks and computer-controlled real-time damping. These suspensions offer a smooth sail over most rough terrains. The active suspension installed in the rear portion of the vehicle automatically adjusts the vehicle according to the road conditions.

Four-wheel disc brakes with twin-piston front calipers offer immense stopping power in short distances. StabilliTrack, a computer controlled stability system, keeps the EXT stable during abnormal conditions. The Bosch 8.0 Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) prevents the tires from skidding on wet or snowy terrain.

Safety
Worry-free
The vehicle is equipped with the dual stage driver and front passenger 360 degree sensing air bag system. It has the PASS-Key III immobilizer with an audible content theft-deterrent system, which deters a thief from stealing. A three-channel tow/haul mode selector also found a place in the van. Lap seatbelts and shoulder seatbelts are standard for the driver and front passenger. A LATCH system for children’s safety anchorage and various other safety equipments are also present in the EXT.
