Overview
A distinct luxury crossover SUV
The Cadillac SRX is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by the Cadillac division of General Motors. The SRX was first produced in the 2004 model year. Based on the GM Sigma platform, the SRX is available in rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) versions.

The SRX is offered in a 5-door with five-seater and seven-seater configurations. It is available in two trims: the SRX V6 and SRX V8.

For 2007, the SRX has been upgraded with a number of new features. Some of these upgrades include a redesigned instrument panel and center console, an improved quality of interior materials, an optional surround-sound audio system, a Sport Package for the AWD models, and a 6-speed automatic transmission option with the V8 engine.

The SRX comes with a powertrain limited warranty for five years or 100,000 miles. It competes with the likes of Acura MDX, Lexus RX, Mercedes-Benz R-Class, and Volvo XC90.

Engine and Performance
A true-performance vehicle
The Cadillac SRX offers a choice of two engines. The SRX V6 is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine with variable valve timing (VVT), which produces 255 hp @ 6,500 rpm and 254 lb-ft. of torque @ 2,800 rpm. The V6 engine is linked to a Hydra-Matic 5-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with Driver Shift Control.

The SRX V8 derives power from a 4.6-liter Northstar V8 VVT engine, which delivers 320 hp @ 6,400 rpm and 315 lb-ft. @ 4,400 rpm. The V8 engine is teamed up with a Hydra-Matic 6-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with Driver Shift Control.

Walk-around
Looks impressive and imposing
The SRX looks as stylish as it looks imposing. It measures 194.9 inches in length and comes with a 116.4-inch wheelbase.

The V6 comes standard with Tungsten halogen headlamps, windshield wiper-activated with Twilight Sentinel, and a flash-to-pass feature, while the V8 features standard Xenon High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps, windshield wiper-activate with Twilight Sentinel, cornering lamps, and a flash-to-pass feature. Xenon HID headlamps, which provide a blue-white light, are optional on the V6.

The V6 as well as the V8 come standard with fog lamps, which offer sufficient lighting and improve visibility in foggy conditions. Both the trims also feature power-adjustable and heated exterior rear-view mirrors, and a power-remote operated lift-gate.

Intermittent windshield wipers with washers and rear intermittent wipers with washers are standard on both the trims. These keep the windshield and the rear window sparkling clean and offer a better view in front of and behind the vehicle.

The V6 comes standard with black roof rails, while the V8 features a chrome luggage rack, which is available as optional on the V6. These roof rails and luggage racks can hold plenty of luggage or cargo and come in handy while going on long trips or journeys.

Both, the V6 and V8 are available with the option of an UltraView, a power glass roof that opens over first and second rows while tilt-sliding with Express-Open and power sunshade, or an UltraView Plus, a power glass roof that opens over first and second rows while tilt-sliding with Express-Open, glass over third row, and power sunshades.

The V6 comes standard with 17-inch painted-finish cast-aluminum wheels with P235/65HR17 front and P255/60HR17 rear Goodyear all-season radial tires. The V6 is also available with the option of 18-inch ultra-bright machine-finish cast-aluminum wheels with P235/60VR18 front and P255/55VR18 rear Michelin all-season radial tires, and 20-inch polished finish cast-aluminum wheels with P255/50R20 RS tires.

The V8 wears standard 18-inch ultra-bright machine-finish cast-aluminum wheels with P235/60VR18 front and P255/55VR18 rear Michelin all-season radial tires, though it is also available with the option of 20-inch polished finish cast-aluminum wheels with P255/50R20 RS tires.

Some option packages available on the SRX are the Performance Package, the 18" Wheel Sport Package, and the 20" Wheel Sport Package.

Both the trims boast of a dual-zone automatic climate control system with individual climate settings for driver and right-front passenger. The option of rear air-conditioning is also available on both the trims.

The SRX comes standard with a center console with floor shifter, integral armrest, storage compartment, and cup holders. Front and rear-center armrests with dual cup holders are standard on both the trims. The V8 also features a storage system, including rear cargo area and three reconfigurable compartments with one removable storage bin. This storage system is optional on the V6.

The V8 comes standard with a Memory Package, which recalls presets for two drivers; this package is optional on the V6. However, power-adjustable pedals, with memory recall for two drivers, are optional on both the trims. An electric defogger on the rear window, with front and side window outlets for the driver and right-front passenger, is standard on the SRX.

For entertainment, the SRX V6 comes standard with an AM/FM stereo with CD player, Radio Data System (RDS), and Bose 8-speaker system. The V8 features a standard AM/FM stereo with a 6-disc in-dash CD changer, Bose 8-speaker sound system, RDS, and a digital signal processing. This audio system is optional on the V6. Also optional is an Entertainment System, including rear seat DVD player with LCD display, wireless headphones and remote control.

The SRX comes with a maximum cargo capacity of 69.5 cubic-feet, which means you can stash away those big, bulky suitcases into your SRX with great ease. It can tow up to 2,000 pounds of cargo.

Some option packages available on the SRX are: Luxury Package, Premium Seating Package, Theater Package, V6 Luxury Collection, V6 Premium Luxury Collection, Wood Trim Package, and Utility Package.

Driving Impressions
Performance driving will thrill you
The SRX comes standard with a RWD system, though the option of AWD is also available, which offers enhanced traction on risky, slippery terrains

The SRX is maneuvered by a speed-sensitive, variable-assist power rack-and-pinion steering, which offers direct and quick responses without any extra effort.

The SRX rides on a 4-wheel independent suspension, which includes a short/long arm, coil-over strut with anti-sway bar in front, and a modified multi-link with anti-sway bar and automatic rear level control system in the rear. Both benefit from mono-tube performance shock absorbers. This suspension system largely mitigates the impact of road irregularities and offers a smooth ride.

The SRX is equipped with 4-wheel disc brakes with an anti-lock braking system and brake assist. The brakes are sharp and offer instant responses, bringing the SRX to a halt just as soon as the brake pedal is pushed.

The SRX also benefits from an all-speed traction control, which gives it added stability on all kinds of road conditions, and StabiliTrak, a 4-channel electronic stability control system, controlled by a computer. It also gets the benefit of an electronic cruise control with ‘set and resume’ speed functions.
