Overview
State-of-the-art technology merges with contemporary design
The 2007 Cadillac XLR, is Caddy’s high-performance luxury roadster that debuted in 1999 to rave reviews

The XLR combines its compelling design with cutting edge technology. This luxury roadster with roots based on the same Y-body platform as the Chevrolet Corvette, uses Cadillac’s Northstar V8 engine with a VVT (Variable Valve Timing) rear-wheel drive engine.

For 2007, all models of Cadillac's two-seat V8 convertible receive a 6-speed automatic transmission in place of the earlier 5-speed.

The XLR receives Cadillac’s first application of an Adaptive Steerable Headlamp Lighting System. XM Satellite Radio with a hidden antenna is standard. A redesigned wood trim on the center stack and two new colors, Gold Mist and Infrared have been added to the color line-up.

Engine and Performance
Power-packed V8
The 2007 Cadillac XLR has a 4.6L Northstar V8 VVT that churns out 320 hp and 310 lb-ft. of torque.

A 6-speed electronically controlled Automatic Transmission (AT) with overdrive, torque converter clutch, Performance Algorithm Shifting and Performance Algorithm Liftfoot, along with driver shift control for clutchless manual operation is standard on the XLR. Fuel economy is estimated at 17 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.

Walk-around
Crisp-edgy-vintage Cadillac
The XLRs exterior trappings are vintage Cadillac, contemporary, eye-catching, and elegant. Crisp, linear, and sensational, it emanates a luxury that is a reflection of its genealogy. Its sturdy grille for instance is distinctive of the marque -in an avant-garde fashion.

The one button power-retractable hardtop converts the XLR from a coupe into an open roadster in less than 30 seconds. The top is made of aluminum and magnesium with composite exterior panels to give the XLR its sleek and nimble structure.

It rides on 18-inch, 7-spoke polished-aluminum high-performance wheels. Michelin ZP P235/50R18 extended mobility tires with "run-flat" capability ensure that there is no need of a spare tire.

Other exterior features include dual chrome plated outlet tips, a power release fuel filler door, fog lights, tail lamps featuring LED illumination, and rain sensing automatic wipers.

Comfort, Controls & Convenience
Refined elegance
The interiors resonate with a warm and simple elegance. A neat and functional décor merges with new-fangled technology such as digital readouts for vehicle speed, adaptive cruise indicator, audio information, and more.

A high mounted touchscreen in the center stack keeps the dash clean and uncluttered.

A standard DVD Navigation System (with two free map disc updates) can be personalized for 2 drivers. Hands-free voice command makes for hassle free steering.

The XLR seats two occupants comfortably. The plush interior has eucalyptus wood and aluminum accents. Cooled and heated seats have dual-zone lumbar controls and memory settings.

Interior comforts include an automatic climate control, power windows/locks, steering wheel mounted controls, automatic headlamps, solar ray tinted glass, Navigation System, multi-adjustable driver and passenger seats, Cruise Control, heated exterior mirrors, and a CD player.

Driving Impressions
Impeccable performance
The XLR’s response to the throttle is adequate. There is a noticeable body roll during hard cornering and considerable nosedive during heavy braking due to a soft suspension

The XLR has a four-wheel independent double wishbone system with transversely mounted composite leaf springs for suspension.

Acceleration is almost perfect and transmission responds in a smooth and seamless fashion. At full throttle the V8 impresses with a robust exhaust note.

The XLR is an all round performer and is a pleasure to ride, despite the wind buffeting it takes at freeway speeds. Ride quality is comfortable. Steering is crisp and efficient.

Safety
Covered for most contingencies
The XLR covers most safety features and is engineered to withstand most contingencies

Four-wheel Anti-lock disc brakes and Stability Control are standard. Seat belts have powered pretensioners. The passenger-side front airbag can be switched off to accommodate children in safety seats.

Other safety features include an automatic notification of airbag deployment, remote door unlock, stolen vehicle tracking, roadside assistance, hands-free voice activated phone, remote keyless entry, daytime running lights, and front and side airbags.
